Top Scots comedian Gary Faulds has taken the difficult decision to once again cancel his Hamilton show.
A mum-of-two who hit rock bottom when her marriage broke down and she lost her home has donated thousands of pounds worth of presents to The Salvation Army’s Christmas Present Appeal – after the charity ‘saved her life’. Simone Williams’s life started to spiral after she suffered a heart attack on Boxing Day 2013, aged just 28 and while pregnant with her second child. When her marriage broke down a few months after her baby was born prematurely, but thankfully healthily, Simone, 35, of Clitheroe, Lancashire, and her two children were forced to move out of the family home. Having given up work so she could care for her daughters, now aged seven and six, Simone fell into arrears on her rented house – and facing the prospect of not being able to buy her children Christmas presents, she hit rock bottom.
HUNDREDS of children are going to wake up on Christmas Day with a present thanks to the generosity of everyone in west Wiltshire who responded to the Salvation Army’s annual Christmas Toy Appeal which has been supported by the Wiltshire Times. Around 3,000 toys and other gifts have been donated to the Salvation Army’s Toy Appeal this year. That phenomenal response is double the amount of last year and will help the Salvation Army to give presents to so many more families in need this Christmas. The Salvation Army’s Territorial Envoy and Trowbridge church leader Michala Lancefield said they had received an “amazing response” to this year’s appeal and had been overwhelmed by people’s generosity.
The Vernon’s Christmas Toy Appeal has raised an incredible £6,000 to help children supported by Cheadle-based charity Together Trust.
The local building society decided to boost its contribution to an extra £10 for every donation of £5 or more, to match the generosity shown by the local community.
The online fundraiser was redesigned this year to be COVID-secure, with a website set up for donations to buy Christmas presents for local kids instead of donating actual toys.
The Together Trust supports champions and cares for people with disabilities, autism and complex health needs and provides life-changing support for looked-after children and care-experienced people.
