The raft carrying Michael Jaramillo when an accident on Adventureland Park s Raging River ride fatally injured him July 3 temporarily had been pulled from service earlier in the day because of a deflated air bladder, according to public records obtained by the Des Moines Register.
It was one of several rafts that had been taken out of service because the bladders that keep them afloat had deflated, state amusement ride safety investigators said in a previously unreleased report.

An Iowa teenager fighting for his life after a raft carrying him and other members of his family flipped on Adventureland Park s Raging River ride earlier this month may be blind, the family s pastor said Tuesday. We still don’t know if he’s going to be able to see or not, pastor Christian Shields of Cedar Rapids Christian Life Church said of David Jaramillo, whose family was at the park to celebrate his fast approaching 16th birthday.
Ryan Best, the Jaramillo family s attorney, also confirmed with the Des Moines Register that David cannot currently see or speak and that doctors do not know whether he ll regain his eyesight.
