The Christian County Public School System and Murray State University have partnered in a program centered on the premise of developing future educators.
According to a news release from CCPS Spokesperson John Rittenhouse, the program from both Hopkinsville and Christian County high schools is in Murray State’s 18-county west Kentucky service region. Participating students will take courses through a new dual credit program and earn college credit toward a degree offered through Murray State’s College of Education and Human Services.
Called the “Grow Your Own” program, holds significant opportunities for students to explore the teaching profession as a career before graduating high school with the potential of also helping address teacher shortages and increasing diversity in educators.

Only eight days of school remain for students of the Christian County Public School System, but officials will still be working on behalf of their students during the summer months.
Speaking with WHOP News Tuesday, Superintendent Chris Bentzel says they have partnered with Wild Health, the University of Kentucky and the Department of Public Health to provide free doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to students over the age of 12 who want the shot, starting after the end of the school year. Bentzel says it would be with parental permission and they’ll have more information as plans get finalized, but they intend to have sites at both high schools.

The Christian County Public School System has been approved by the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the U.S. Department of Labor as meeting the standards and requirements for a registered apprenticeship program.
According to a news release from CCPS Spokesperson John Rittenhouse, the standards are met under the standards and requirements for a registered apprenticeship program under the Code of Federal Regulations and Kentucky Revised Statutes. CCPS is one of eleven Kentucky school districts with an approved registered apprenticeship program and this allows the district to sponsor apprenticeship programs for junior and senior students.
Former Christian County School System Superintendent, Dr. Bob Lovingood has died from COVID-19.
Dr. Lovingood led the Christian County Public School System from 2001 through 2008 and spent the last six years of his life as mayor of his hometown in Vonore, Tennessee.
He was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and was superintendent of the Monroe County, Tennessee School System for about 12 years before coming to Christian County.
He’s survived by his wife of 46 years, Darlene Lovingood, and his three sons.
Dr. Lovingood was 73.
