Fiscal court approves body cam purchase, hears update on Gold Star Family Monument

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio Mar 9, 2021 10:55 AM Christian Fiscal Court approved the purchase of body cams for the Christian County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning and heard an update on construction of a Gold Star Family Memorial Monument on Fort Campbell. Magistrates approved a bid of about $38,000 to purchase 34 body cameras for the Christian County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Tyler DeArmond says it will be enough for every deputy to have a camera. Kelli Pendleton with the Christian County Chamber of Commerce is helping to lead the effort to construct a Gold Star Family Memorial Monument on post and says they hope to unveil it in October.

Hopkinsville man arrested following pursuit ending on Walnut Street

A Hopkinsville man was arrested at around 1:20 a.m. Thursday following a pursuit that began on Cadiz Road and ended on Walnut Street, according to a Christian County Sheriff’s Office press release. The release states deputies spotted a vehicle driving on Cadiz Road with expired tags and attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop and began to attempt to flee deputies. Deputies with the help of Hopkinsville police officers pursued the vehicle through downtown Hopkinsville and were able to stop the vehicle at Walnut Street by using spike strips to disable the vehicle, according to the release.

Nebraska man charged with burglary following pursuit

A Nebraska man was arrested at around 5 p.m. Tuesday following a pursuit that started and ended on the Pennyrile Parkway, according to a Christian County Sheriff’s Office press release. The release states that Quillan Cannon, 29, Blair, Nebraska, had allegedly burglarized a home at around the 1000 block Crofton Fruit Hill Road Tuesday afternoon and was spotted by a Kentucky State Police trooper at about 5 p.m. driving on the Pennyrile Parkway. As the trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, Cannon allegedly attempted to flee. A short time later, county deputies joined the pursuit and were able to stop the vehicle at about the 15-mile marker.

Three people arrested for alleged drug trafficking, gun possession following traffic stop

Three people were arrested at around 9:15 p.m. Wednesday on several drug and gun possession charges following a traffic stop in the area of Princeton Road, according to a Christian County Sheriff’s Office report. The report states deputies observed a vehicle driving at 73 miles per hour in a 55-mph zone in the area of Cerulean-Princeton Road and Princeton Road. Deputies stopped the vehicle and began a traffic stop, during which deputies’ K9 Hamer indicated that there may have been narcotics in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a 9 millimeter handgun, 43 grams of methamphetamine and digital scales, which CCSO says is typically used in trafficking drugs.
