The 2022 BMW M5 CS was officially shown to the world at the beginning of the year. Since then, it has starred in numerous videos, doing all sorts of things, and as of recently, it has added the Nurburgring Nordschleife to the list. 1 photo
The super executive sedan was set loose between the apexes of the (in)famous German racetrack against the clock, with the sole purpose of proving its mettle. Riding on 275/35R20 front and 285/35R20 rear Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, it was driven across the finish line by SportAuto’s Christian Gebhardt in 7:29.57.
Petrol heads know that the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is the undisputed king of the circuit, having lapped it in 6:43.62. It stole the crown from the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ (6:44.97), which in turn beat the Huracan Performante (6:52.01). So what does this time mean for the M5 CS? Sport Auto was able to secure a GT3 for a lap around the Nürburgring to see just how close it could get to Kern s 6:59.927 time. Amazingly,
Sport Auto s head test driver Christian Gebhardt was able to bring the car around the world s toughest track in 7.04.74 less than five seconds off Porsche s official time.
It s worth noting that Gebhardt is a bit more skilled than your average car journalist. According to driverdb.com, he s won multiple classes at the Nürburgring 24-hour. He s also responsible for all of
Sport Auto s new car testing at the Nürburgring. One could say he s an expert on the track.
It set a decent lap time considering its power output.
The Toyota GR Yaris has already done much to convince us that it s one of the most capable and exciting hot hatches on the planet right now. Buoyed by its all-wheel-drive system, it has already conquered the great Honda Civic Type R in a drag race and shown that it can keep up with far more powerful sports cars on the track.
We now have confirmation of how quickly the little Toyota can scoot around the demanding Nurburgring track. A good time here would cement the car s status as a modern Toyota great. Well, consider it job done. It also helps that the video of the Yaris being thrashed is a joy to watch with the skilled Christian Gebhardt behind the wheel.
Toyota hasn’t set an official Nurburgring Nordschleife lap time with the potent GR Yaris (yet), but this video provides us with a good look at just how fast it is around the treacherous German circuit.
This particular GR Yaris is a customer-owned example and the driver shows very little fear tackling Green Hell, even though this was just his 14th lap at the circuit and just his second lap in the Japanese hot hatch. The car is so controllable at the limit and provides such good performance that the driver was able to keep up with a BMW M2 Competition throughout the lap.
