Killeen City Council approves memorandum for Committee for Crime Solutions

The Killeen City Council unanimously approved a Memorandum of Agreement for the Committee for Crime Solutions at a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday night. The committee was proposed by Councilmember Ken Wilkerson and would include members from Killeen, Bell County, the Killeen Independent School District and Fort Hood. Harker Heights has pulled out of the committee due to being involved in other programs, according to Wilkerson. Wilkerson said the goal of the committee is to study crime with data provided by Texas A&M University-Central Texas, decrease crime around the area and provide solutions to prevent it. Wilkerson gave a more in-depth look at the prospective impact of the proposed committee during an interview prior to Tuesday’s meeting.

KISD masks, virtual learning, and COVID-19 dashboard up for vote Tuesday

The Killeen Independent School District board of trustees will officially vote on doing away with the district’s online coronavirus tracking dashboard, mandatory face masks, and the potential for virtual learning — part of the district’s revised public health guide — during Tuesday’s upcoming board meeting. During the district’s daytime workshop meeting May 18, Superintendent John Craft laid out the reasoning behind getting rid of the online coronavirus dashboard which keeps track of weekly positive cases of coronavirus at each KISD school as well as the total number of positive cases to date since March 2020.
