KISD deputy superintendent resigns, focus is on preparing for upcoming school year

Killeen Independent School District s Deputy Superintendent, Eric Penrod, has submitted a letter of resignation in order to pursue other opportunities.
This leaves the district with the priority of posting and filling the now vacant position, however the district is gearing it s focus into preparation for the upcoming school year.
Penrod has served in the position since 2019, and throughout the pandemic. The role includes supporting business services, human resources, school safety, student services, athletics, and facilities services.

KILLEEN, Texas The Killeen Police Department (KPD) is partnering with the Boys and Girls Club of Central Texas and the Killeen Independent School District (KISD) to host a summer camp for young men.
The Boys 2 Men camp will run from July 27 to July 29. It s open to boys in grades six to eight.
Officer Devin Hill came up with the idea. There s actually not enough of these programs. There are some, Hill said.
He said he wanted to provide positive role models to the boys who attend. The camp is meant to show boys how to be productive and stay out of trouble.

Killeen Independent School District officials and school board members met Tuesday to discuss a rezoning plan that may impact thousands of current and future high school students.
The district is tasked with adjusting school attendance zones to alleviate high school overcrowding while also filling the district s newest campus, Chaparral High School, in advance of its grand opening in 2022.
âItâs hard to believe that itâs actually time to start venturing into the world of rezoning for the opening of Chaparral High School,â KISD Superintendent John Craft said during the school board meeting Tuesday.

The Killeen Independent School District board of trustees unanimously voted to approve a teacher incentive payment spending plan during Tuesdayâs regular meeting.
âThis is a new incentive allotment proposed through the Texas Education Agency that is going to allow teachers, based upon classroom performance, to reap the benefits of additional compensation as a result of their performance,â KISD Superintendent John Craft said Tuesday evening.
The agenda item passed in a 6-0 vote with board member Marvin Rainwater absent and not voting.
The spending plan must next be approved by the Texas Education Agency before teachers see any additional funds.
