(AP) A former professional baseball player was fatally shot in North Carolina and a suspect has been arrested, authorities said. Jeffrey Goldbach, 41, was found suffering from a gunshot wound Sunday night in northern Guilford County, news outlets reported. Goldbach was hospitalized but died as a result of his wound, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said. Brandon Christopher Hyde, 37, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Hyde is jailed on a $75,000 bond and it’s unclear whether he had an attorney. A motive for the shooting wasn’t immediately released.

Updated: 1:20 PM EST Mar 9, 2021 WXII12.com Web Staff The Rockingham County Sheriff s Office is searching for a 46-year-old man who is considered armed and dangerous and is wanted for shooting at deputies during a high-speed pursuit in February. Deputies said Michael Laverne Murphy, of Greensboro, shot at two deputies during a chase that led them into Guilford County on Feb. 25.Click the video player above for headlines from WXII 12 News.The deputies were on patrol in the same vehicle on U.S. 29 bypass near the Drum Road Bridge in Reidsville when they first spotted a speeding truck, deputies said. The deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but were unsuccessful as it headed toward Guilford County at a higher speed.Deputies said Murphy began firing several gunshots at the deputies on U.S. 29 bypass around McWalker Road.
