Covid Ayrshire: Kilmarnock prison hit by outbreak

A coronavirus outbreak has hit a number of convicts in two wings of Ayrshire s prison. NHS Ayrshire and Arran confirmed they were working with prison staff after a number of cases at HMP Kilmarnock. This was revealed after several custody cases had to be continued to a later date at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court today [Tuesday, February 9].   Joint Director of Public Health Joy Tomlinson said: NHS Ayrshire and Arran Health Protection Team is working closely with HMP Kilmarnock following confirmation of a number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases. All relevant Public Health measures are in place and our Public Health Team is working with local Environmental Health Officers to manage and monitor the situation.

Irvine man jailed for threats and aggression on bail

An Irvine man was jailed for 12 weeks for threatening behaviour while out on bail. Darren Jones, 34, was caged for two offences committed while bailed when he returned to Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week. The former McKinlay Crescent resident, recently of Hill Street, Barrhead, admitted behaving aggressively, repeatedly shouting, swearing, making threatening remarks and challenging others to fight – while acting with another – in Kier Hardie Crescent, Kilwinning on April 13 last year. Bail was granted on April 12, 2019 and February 21, 2020 at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and December 18 at Ayr Sheriff Court. Jones was also caged for 11 weeks after behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Madras Takeaway, New Street, Stevenston on February 26 2019.

Irvine police chase biker who lost cops at 150mph jailed

A MOTORCYCLIST was jailed after outrunning the police in a 150mph pursuit. Michael Carter, 35, was spotted by cops on his bike at 9.14pm on November 15, 2019, who followed and signalled to stop at Long Drive, Irvine. Carter, of Hillhead, Coylton, rode onto the A71, accelerating harshly to overtake a vehicle, while officers noted the speed at 150mph on the 70 road. Reaching the A78, Carter rode towards the Monkton Roundabout then Dutch House roundabout overtaking two vehicles with officers at 140mph. After continuing to the B738 towards Kilmarnock, the officers stood down due to danger of life – with a PMZ check confirming the bike was registered to Carter, who turned himself in at Irvine station on November 18 to be cautioned and charged.
