Three vehicle thefts, apartment complex broken into in Silver Spring area

Crimes reported to Montgomery County police April 11 through 17 By Dan Schere | Photo by Caitlynn Peetz Thefts from vehicles Money and property were taken from a vehicle in the area of East West Highway and Beach Drive between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on April 17. Force was reported. Property was taken from two vehicles between April 13 and 16. The thefts happened in the 4800 block of Bethesda Avenue and the 4700 block of Maple Avenue. Force was reported. Property was taken from three vehicles between April 6 and 14. Affected streets included Pratt Place, Shaftsbury Street and Mertford Street. Property was taken from a vehicle in the 4700 block of Bradley Boulevard between 2:10 and 2:30 p.m. on April 13. Force was reported.

And, they said, proceeds from the event would benefit cancer research.  A crowd of about 300 people gathered in between warehouse buildings, with sport-coup drivers pushing down the gas and brake pedals simultaneously to do donuts. They also drag-raced from one end of the large parking lot to the other.  Video from the event shows a driver, hanging out the window of his car doing donuts just a few feet from spectators.  And then Lakeland police, who had gotten wind of the event, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Florida Highway Patrol showed up in force, blocking the two exits.

(AP) Wildlife officials are offering a $10,000 reward in their investigation into the killing of a bald eagle in West Tennessee. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency are seeking the public s help as they work to figure out who shot and killed a mature bald eagle in Lake County. The bird was shot on Club House Road on March 20. The reward for information leading to the prosecution of the eagle s killer has increased from $4,500 to $10,000. Anyone with information should call either the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at 615-736-5532 or the TWRA at 731-423-5725.

Evans Farm project sees opposition at March 25 hearing

Following nearly five hours of testimony last week — all from those opposed to a proposed project to build 200 apartments at the intersection of Railway and Old Mill roads near Ocean View and Millville, the Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission deferred making a recommendation until the P&Z’s Thursday, April 8, meeting. Once made and announced, that recommendation will be sent to the Sussex County Council, whose members will make the final decision. P&Z commissioners listened to reasons offered as to why the apartments shouldn’t be built, in testimony that ran from 6 p.m. until nearly 11 p.m. at the Thursday, March 25, P&Z meeting, but no one commenting spoke in favor.
