As lockdown restrictions continue to ease across the country, Aberdeen City Libraries will begin reopening more services. Kincorth and Woodside Libraries will be welcoming readers back for browsing, borrowing and computer access from Monday. Aberdeen Central Library is already open, alongside Airyhall, Bridge of Don, Cove, Culter, Dyce, Mastrick and Tillydrone libraries. Council education convener M. By Readers Letters © Chris Sumner/AberdeenJournals While Aberdeen city councillor Claire Imrie praises ACC’s 18-month mental health support initiative to maintain and enhance the mental health and wellbeing of staff (EE, May 15), this doesn’t reflect the mood at ACC’s headquarters at Marischal College. Lots of ACC housing staff are “overworked” and are “at breaking point” due to cuts in services, increased workloads and the pandemic, with the threat of strike action on the cards (Evening Express, May 3). Meanwhile, I assume chief executive Angela Scott has been running the city from her Dundee home since the beginning of lockdown in March 2020.

An Aberdeen councillor has praised the local authority's mental health support. Councillor Claire Imrie has been speaking as the UK’s annual Mental Health Awareness Week celebrations draw to a close.Aberdeen City Council has developed a series of programmes and joined a series of initiatives in the last 18 months to maintain and enhance the mental health and wellbeing of staff and the wider public.

A freedom of information request has shown that the number of library cards signed up for in both Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire has risen compared to the last year. In Aberdeen, data for 2019/20 shows that a total of 7,089 adults signed up for a library card at one of the city’s libraries, while 257 teens aged between 12 and 15 got a card and 1,910 children were registered. This compares to 6,959 adults, 305 teenagers and 1,801 children who were registered in 2018/19.
