Claudia Kay Montague Widmer, 72, cherished wife, mother, Nana and friend died at her home in Ontario, OR on June 13, 2021 after a short battle with metastatic breast cancer and chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Claudia was born February 25, 1949 in Tacoma, WA to Lloyd Montague and Blanche Peterson. She was the only child of their union. Her early years were spent in WA and AK as Lloyd was stationed there. Blanche and Claudia moved to Vale, OR in the mid 1950âs to care for Blancheâs aging parents. She graduated from Vale Union H.S. in 1967, then went to TVCC in Ontario before transferring to Oregon College of Education in Monmouth, OR where she completed her bachelorâs degree in English with her teaching certificate in 1971. She completed her student teaching at North Salem High School in Salem, OR then taught her 1st full year 1971-1972 at North Marion High School in Aurora, OR where she taught English, Drama, and Speech. Hannah Verrips, a graduate student in Arizona State University s Master of Political Psychology program has firsthand experience with those challenges. Verrips, a dual national of the United States and Canada, spent time during her undergraduate studies as part of the Canadian legislature while at the University of Waterloo. This governmental experience was part of a work experience program at various ministries in the Ontario provincial government. Hannah Verrips, a graduate student in the Master of Political Psychology program hopes to expand political research on dual citizens.

University of Portland, Willamette U. to require COVID-19 vaccinations
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) University of Portland officials have announced that the school will require proof of COVID-19 vaccinations for all students, faculty and staff when the fall semester starts.
The school made the announcement Tuesday in a news release. The release says more than 100 colleges and universities nationally have announced vaccination requirements for students and/or employees, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Willamette University in Salem also will all ask students, faculty and staff to show vaccination proof before fall classes start. Lewis and Clark College in Portland said last week it would require student vaccinations and urge employees to get vaccinated.

Runner Drew Hering did nothing but win during Mount Shasta High School s recent cross country season. The Bear junior will attempt to continue his winning ways during the track and field season, which kicked off over the weekend.
Hering won all six races MSHS participated in. This includes placing first in the Shasta Cascade League Championships on March 19.
Hering s used to success: as a freshman runner and again his sophomore year, Hering made state in Division Five. He placed 74th as a freshman, and 59th as a sophomore. There was no state meet this season due to COVID-19.
