April 8, 2021 By Tom Tolen / news@whmi.com Ford - one of the Brighton Area School District’s 12 social-emotional-learning dogs — is resting at home after surgery last month for a torn ligament, which is equivalent to an ACL tear in his knee. The surgery was performed by Oakland Veterinary Referral Services in Bloomfield Twp., which donated the surgical procedure and waived all related charges. It was for that reason that the Brighton Board of Education named the veterinary practice a “Shining Star” at its March 22nd meeting and accepted the donation of $3,900 in veterinary services. Karen Storey, whose idea it was to start the “Pack of Dogs” program and who is its founder, says, “They jumped right on board to help Ford out. A group of parents spoke with Local 4 about what they think is best for their children. Troy Schools creates new educational equity position Godfrey Advertisement TROY Cornelius Godfrey is the Troy School District’s new supervisor of educational equity, inclusion and community relationships. District officials said they are excited to welcome Godfrey, who they said has spent both his career and his personal life as an advocate for inclusion, to the new position within the district. “We are very excited to bring Mr. Godfrey’s experience and passion,” Christine DiPilato, the assistant superintendent of secondary instruction, said in a statement.
