North Adams Scrap Yard Fire Contained

Dozens of firefighters labored through the day to bring a raging fire at a local scrap yard under control.    Fire Chief Brent Lefebvre said the blaze has largely been contained but that crews will be working through the night to dig out the fires burning in the 100-foot long pile of automotive debris. He was hopeful it would be out by morning.   There s a small area of fire still burning, we re still working to pull it apart. The pile is deep, and its rooted in the pile, said Lefebvre, speaking at the incident command center Tuesday evening. It s about a two-story pile of rubble.

Weekend fatality details released

8 hrs ago GREENSBURG - Details have been released regarding a weekend fatality that claimed the life of a Decatur County teenager. At approximately 1:30 a.m. Friday, April 4, deputies from the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single-vehicle accident with injury in the 6500 block of CR 400 N. According to information made available by the DCSD, a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Nicolas Christianson, 19, of Greensburg was westbound on CR 400 N from CR 700 E at a high rate of speed. At the intersection of CR NE 80, the driver lost control of the vehicle which then rolled before striking a utility pole.

Williamstown Firefighters Extinguish Third Blaze in Two Days

  Firefighters from Williamstown, North Adams and Pownal, Vt., extinguished the blaze at the three-bedroom residence at 23 Hoxsey St. in about 30 to 45 minutes, Fire Chief Craig Pedercini said. The Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to provide coverage at the Williamstown station.   No one was home at the time of the Wednesday afternoon fire. The three tenants, students at Williams College, left for break earlier in the week, according to the building s owner, Paul Rinehart, who was on scene to watch the cleanup.   Pedercini credited workers from the Williams College Science Center project across the street with helping to get the fire under control.
