Thanks to CMCSS for great work in challenging year | COMMENTARY

Contributed commentary from Carl Wilson: Last August, my wife, Rita, and I agreed to serve as virtual mentors for our 9-year-old grandson, Jack. Jack would be entering third grade at Woodlawn Elementary School after a summer move to the Woodlawn community. After several discussions with our daughter and son-in-law, and given the status of COVID-19 infections, we collectively agreed that “virtual school” would be best for Jack. Little did we know about the challenges the school year would bring. School year 2020-21 has been an enlightening experience. Daily involvement with the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System and the dedicated staff of professionals has given us a greater appreciation for the work they do for our kids and, ultimately, for our communities.

County approves teacher pay raise, rejects raise for schools director

Section A (Res. 21-5-6) contained various budget increases, including a pay increase for teachers and maintenance staff, while Section B (Res. 21-5-7) focused solely on budget increases for the director’s office and salary.

That was the word Monday afternoon from Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury Jason Mumpower, when he addressed representatives from all three counties in Montgomery County Commission chambers at the courthouse. 22nd District state Sen. Bill Powers (R-Clarksville) hosted the gathering. What is becoming clear, however, is how much funding each of the three contiguous counties will receive under the federal American Rescue Plan (ARP).
