Iowa woman loses $1,000 to fake Apple customer support

Author: Shelby Kluver (WQAD) Updated: 9:15 PM CST February 24, 2021 DAVENPORT, Iowa Normally when we hear about scam calls, it s the scammers trying to contact us, by calling and pretending to be someone they re not. But one local woman, who s asked to remain anonymous for this interview, says she reached to to them, unknowingly. And thus so, unknowingly participated in her own robbery.  She was trying to cancel her Apple TV subscription, and get a $10 charge refunded, but wasn t getting anywhere by sending emails. Finally, she googled a phone number for Apple support, and clicked on what appeared to be Apple s website.

It s the start of a new year and we have our first scam warning of 2021. This scam is impacting Clinton County citizens. According to the Clinton County Sherriff s Office and Clinton County Communications, there is a scam going around where people are calling and giving a name of former Lt. at Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, the departments phone number and the departments address. After that, the scammers are saying that there is a warrant for the person’s arrest and bond out for them.
