By the middle of September 1944 the Allied drive east across France towards the German border had almost reached the end of its tether. The American XX Corps had as its objective the French city of Metz, 20 miles west of the border, but they were thinly stretched against a desperate enemy fighting to defend the Third Reich.

Two US divisions were assigned to the assault on Metz, but the problem facing HQ was the lack of troops at their disposal to guard the 50 miles that lay between the city and the Luxembourg border to the north. This was needed to ensure that the Germans didn’t launch a sweeping counteroffensive.

Cleveland’s Dittohouse brand collaborates with Guatemalan collective for new textile collection

CLEVELAND, Ohio Modern bursts of color meet ancient weaving techniques in a new line of textiles from Cleveland’s Dittohouse brand, in collaboration with Trama Textiles, a cooperative in Guatemala. It’s the first collection to arrive from Dittohouse in two years.
Each piece was designed by Dittohouse founder Molly Fitzpatrick, then created by Guatemalan weavers using backstrap looms. This style of weaving uses the body as a tension point for the loom, with artists pulling yarn between themselves and a post while they weave.

Cleveland Cinemas will be showing the unique comedy/horror movie online beginning Friday, Jan. 29. The film blurs the lines between art and real life after an ambitious filmmaker discovers she’s good at getting away with murder.
Also on Jan. 29, The Cleveland Institute of Art’s Cinematheque begins screening “Atlantis,” which is Ukraine’s official submission for this year’s Oscar for Best International Feature Film.
