CLEVELAND Summer school is on the horizon, and as families make their plans, Assistant Superintendent at Avon Lake City Schools Jack Dibee says school leaders want to make sure no student falls behind. Help with any skill loss or any learning loss that may have taken place because of the craziness with COVID and also we want to make sure we’re meeting kids social and emotional needs, Dibee said. We also have areas high school students can focus on to get ahead in, like, AP Calculus if they choose that jumpstart program.

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - More than 400 supporters of former President Donald Trump have been charged in the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, including members of far-right extremist groups. At least 18 of those cases, including one announced Monday, involve Ohio residents identified through social media posts and surveillance footage and often turned in by friends or family members.

Ever since the Browns established a partnership with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District in 2015, Dee Haslam and the Cleveland Browns Foundation have prioritized eliminating chronic student absenteeism across Northeast Ohio.
One of the campaigns meant to focus solely on addressing student absenteeism is the Get 2 School, Stay in the Game! Network. Established in 2019 to improve the attendance rates across 14 school districts which has since expanded to 16 districts the initiative aims to break down several of the barriers that could keep students from regularly attending class.
Haslam has always been one of the leading spokespeople for those efforts, and she took the mic again Thursday at the Power of Sports Summit at Progressive Field to remark on the progress the initiative has made.

In celebration of Arbor Day and the legacy that Jesse Owens left behind, Holden Forests and Gardens, along with several prominent Cleveland figures, planted a new oak tree in the Rockefeller Park Lagoon Friday.
Cleveland City Councilman Basheer Jones, Jesse Owens relative Tyrone Owens, President and CEO of Holden Forests and Garden Jill Koski, and President and CEO of Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD) Eric Gordon all took part in the Arbor Day festivity in Cleveland.
