Lauren Boebert s right-wing antics are having a surprising impact back home

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) has gained notoriety for her public displays of firearms whether in campaign ads, in the halls of Congress or in the background of her online presence in committee hearings and her constituents back home seem to love it. The Colorado Republican displayed a shotgun and Glock handgun on a shelf behind her during a hearing on gun safety measures, and the stunt drew praise from her supporters who were as eager to talk firearm minutiae as policy, reported I think she s just part of that mentality that the Glock is inexpensive, lightweight, easy to service (and there are) a lot of accessories for it, said Greg Algazi, a gunsmith who runs a Glenwood Springs pawn shop. The accessory market and the after market parts for the Glock are enormous. You can change sights out quickly and cheaply, you can get extra mags quickly and cheaply.

Friday letters: Airport design, vaccination, county commissioners, and travel ban

The city of Glenwood Springs City Council and the management needs your input.  Glenwood Springs City Council is considering reducing the length of the Glenwood Springs airport runway. The City Council is also considering removing a block of hangars, including the aircraft repair hangar/business. The new proposed runway reduction has some very adverse impacts to the airport. This proposal could shorten the runway by over 500 feet. This would make an already short runway too short. An environmental assessment (EA) was completed years ago. This EA took a committee years to develop the 32 options and then decide on the current option. That now may be changed in just weeks. South Bridge is a good project, but both the airport and the South Bridge Project can coexist without possible dire consequences to the airport.

Glenwood Springs councilors approve tunnel design for South Bridge Project

Mayor Jonathan Godes, Charlie Willman and Paula Stepp voted against the motion, which passed 4-3. That brings the total estimated cost to $56 million, but the other design option that would remove a portion of the runway on the southern end isn’t off the table completely. A motion to analyze the second option by conducting an airspace study and track the number of flights over the course of several months was also approved during Thursday’s meeting with Councilor Tony Hershey being the lone opposing vote. The decision to go through with the tunnel option depends on whether the city can secure funding from other sources.
