Authorities in Idaho are still trying to determine why a sixth-grader came to school with a gun and shot three people. The female student, who has not been identified, reportedly shot two people inside Rigby Middle School and then shot a third person outside.

Two of the victims were students, and the other was a well-liked custodian, identified as
Jim Wilson. According to the
Idaho State Journal, Wilson was shot when he stepped in between the shooter and two students who were wounded. All three were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Wilson has been released from the hospital, while the other two students remain hospitalized in fair condition.

Rigby, ID – Students at Rigby Middle School said that at first they thought their principal had gotten more creative by adding terrifying sounds to a lockdown drill on Thursday after a 6th Grade girl opened fire on her classmates and school staff.
Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson said the girl took a handgun out of her backpack at about 9:15 a.m. on May 6 and opened fire in the middle school’s hallway, the Citizen Times reported.
The girl shot two people inside the school building before she went outside and shot one more person.
A female teacher disarmed the shooter and held her until police arrived, the Associate Press reported.

A sixth-grade girl pulled a handgun from a backpack at her eastern Idaho school on Thursday (May 6) and opened fire, hitting two fellow students and a member of school staff and inflicting non-life-threatening injuries on them, officials said.
The girl was disarmed by a teacher at Rigby Middle School in Rigby, Idaho, a remote community about 270 miles (435 km) east of Boise, and held until law enforcement arrived, Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson said. Her name and exact age weren t immediately released.

Two students and a school employee were shot on Thursday when a sixth-grader opened fire at an Idaho middle school.
“She retrieved a handgun from her backpack and fired multiple rounds inside of the school and out,” Jefferson County Sheriff Steve Anderson said at a news conference on Thursday afternoon.
“During the shooting, a teacher disarmed the student and detained her until law enforcement took her into custody. We don’t have a lot of details right now and are following all leads.”
None of the injuries the three victims sustained are life-threatening, and all are expected to recover. One student may have been shot twice, in multiple limbs.
