Image used for representational purpose only SHILLONG: Six more persons died of Covid-19 in the East Khasi Hills district, taking the fatality count in the state to 185, even as 246 new cases were detected in the state, pushing the the number of active cases up to 1,884. Altogether 177 people recovered in the state on Monday, taking the total count in the state to 15,606. “The new Covid-19 cases detected today (Monday) were 148 in East Khasi Hills, 41 in Ri-Bhoi, 19 in East Jaintia Hills, 13 in West Jaintia Hills, 10 each in West Khasi Hills and South West Garo Hills, two each in South West Khasi Hills and West Garo Hills and one in North Garo Hills,” a senior official in the state health and family welfare department said.

Image Source: IANS News Kohima/Shillong/Agartala, April 20 : With a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases, the northeastern states have taken diverse actions, including imposition of night curfew and closure of educational institutions, to prevent the spread, officials said on Tuesday. The Nagaland and Tripura governments have ordered closures of educational institutions while the lower primary schools in Assam would be closed in the districts where 100 active Covid-19 cases are found in 10 days. In Meghalaya, the night curfew in East Khasi Hills District, in which capital Shillong falls, has been extended for another week until April 25. The state government also announced a series of measures, including banning entry of tourists from other states.
