Palm Springs DUI checkpoint: Five citations, no DUI arrests City News Service Five people were cited during a weekend DUI checkpoint in Palm Springs, but no one was arrested for driving while intoxicated, police reported on Monday. Palm Springs police officers screened 512 vehicles in the 2300 block of Ramon Road between 9:30 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday. The five motorists were arrested for operating a vehicle without a license. Officers searched for motorists driving under the influence of any impairing substance, not just alcohol. Marijuana can also lead to a DUI, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs. At a checkpoint operated earlier this month in the 1100 block of East Tahquitz Canyon Way, police officers screened 308 vehicles and arrested one intoxicated driver and cited another for being unlicensed, police said.

Joseph Ryan Harvey, 30, of Bermuda Dunes was taken into custody at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of South Indian Canyon Drive, less than a half-mile from the hotel where he allegedly attempted to abduct the youngster on Harvey, who s being held at the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning without bail, is is charged with one felony count of kidnapping and two misdemeanor counts of possessing drug paraphernalia.
