IC sets staff vaccinations, graduation | News, Sports, Jobs

From staff reports MINGO JUNCTION Faculty and staff at Indian Creek Local Schools will be obtaining vaccinations during the next week in the latest move to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Superintendent T.C. Chappelear informed board members during a brief session on Thursday that roughly 140 employees will receive their shots on Thursday in the Indian Creek High School gym in cooperation with the Jefferson County Health Department. “We will have a vaccination day on Thursday,” he said. “We will have a remote learning day that day to help facilitate the vaccinations.” In other business, officials hope to return to more in-person classes for the remainder of the year and are already setting their sights on graduation. Chappelear said they also plan to hold commencement exercises this spring. The board has already scheduled next year’s graduation for May 22, 2022, at Franciscan University of Steubenville, but is also eying activities this year for May 23.

Delainey Mellott SALINEVILLE Delainey Mellott, daughter of Rick and Jessica Mellott of East Liverpool, has been selected as the Kiwanis Student of the Month for February at Southern Local High School. She is ranked third in her graduating class with a 4.378 GPA. Delainey has been an Honor Roll student throughout her high school career. She is an active member of National Honor Society, Varsity Club, President of Senior class and Student Council. She was on the 2019 Fall Homecoming Court and 2021 Winter Homecoming Court. She has participated in the College Credit Plus Program at Kent State and Eastern Gateway Community College.

Salem schools plan traditional in-person graduation, prom | News, Sports, Jobs

mgreier@salemnews.net SALEM This year’s seniors can expect a traditional in-person prom and a face-to-face graduation that’s as close to normal as possible. At least that’s the plan announced by Superintendent Sean Kirkland Monday night during the school board meeting, following guidelines and barring any prohibitions by the state. “We feel comfortable we can put on a nice graduation,” he said. The prom is scheduled for May 7 at Mr. Anthony’s on South Avenue in Boardman, with the in-person graduation set for June 6. “We’re going to make it as close to traditional as possible,” he said.

Instructor Matt Peters Students who put effort into learning may leave the CCCTC with the credentials they need for success. Students enrolled in the Precision Machining and Manufacturing program can earn NIMS credentials in Measurement Materials and Safety, Milling, Turning, Turning Between Centers, Surface Grinder, Drill Press, CNC Mill Operations, CNC Mill Programming, CNC Lathe Operations, CNC Lathe Programming, and Job Planning, Benchwork and Layout. Students will also earn the OSHA 10 credentials and forklift certification while enrolled in the program. The Precision Machining and Manufacturing Program has three excellent articulation agreements for students who chose to further their education. The first agreement is with Kent State University. Students may receive 3 credit hours for Engineering Drawing by submitting an application within 15 months of high school graduation, completing the high school Precision Machining and Manufacturing program with a “B” (3.0) g
