Ikonso: How Igbo Informants Helped Security Operatives To Kill IPOB/ESN Commander

The Nigerian Army ‘s operation against the Eastern Security Network and Indigenous People of Biafra in Awomama Village, Oru East Local Government Area of Imo State was aided by local informants which led to the killing of top commander, Ikonso Don, and others, SaharaReporters has learnt.
Sources told SaharaReporters that Ikonso was also given away by some of his photographs shared on social media as well as by one of his friends, who had been in touch with security agencies for weeks, if not months.
Imo and neighbouring states in the southeast region have suffered from an uptick in deadly attacks on security personnel that have led to the loss of lives and property. The Okigwe South Police Area Command, located in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area, was the latest to be attacked on Monday, April 26, 2021. The gunmen opened fire on officers, killing at least five of them, and set the facility on fire after releasing inmates in detention. One other police officer has been reported missing following the attack on Monday evening. Nearly 2,000 inmates were freed when gunmen attacked the Owerri Custodial Centre earlier in April.

Details of the incident remained sketchy as at press time.
But DAILY POST gathered that the incident occurred on Sunday night when the gunmen stormed the campus, shooting sporadically to scare the university security away before taking some students to an unknown destination.
The university’s Director of Information, Protocol and Public Relations Unit (IPPR), Mrs Rosemary Waku, confirmed this on Monday morning.
Also, the state’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine confirmed the incident to DAILY POST correspondent.
She promised to issue a statement shortly.

DAILY POST had reported at the weekend that a joint operation by security forces killed ESN Commander, Ikonso and six other operatives. The authorities blame the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, for successive attacks on security facilities.
IPOB has since confirmed the killing of Ikonso. The confirmation came with a threat to Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State.
Reacting, Omokri challenged the Nigerian Army to take out the leaders of other terrorist elements in Nigeria the same way Ikonso was crushed.
