UPDATE 8:15 P.M. All three suspects in the robbery and car chase, Terrion Johnson; Jabreez Thompkins; and Christopher Smith, were arrested for Business Burglary.
Peoria Police Public Information Officer Amy Dotson said Smith was also arrested for various traffic offenses.
All three individuals were from Michigan and were transported to Peoria County Jail.
PEORIA, Ill. An early Friday afternoon robbery of the Northwoods Mall Kay Jewelers led to a high-speed chase that ended in East Peoria.
Peoria Police responded around 12:15 to the store. There, they were told two males came into the store, using a sledgehammer to bust open glass display cases, before exiting to the parking lot where a van awaited them.
ISP investigate officer-involved death in East Peoria

East Peoria The Illinois State Police (ISP) Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Zone 4 was requested by the East Peoria Police Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting involving an East Peoria Police Officer. The incident occurred on Feb. 2, at approximately 1 a.m. in the parking lot of CVS at the corner of Farmdale Road and Washington Street in East Peoria, Illinois.
Initial information indicates that the East Peoria Police Department was responding to a domestic violence situation. Upon arrival, officers were advised the suspect had left the scene. An East Peoria Police officer located the suspect vehicle in the CVS parking lot and was stabbed multiple times by the suspect. The officer shot the suspect and responding officers provided medical care to the suspect. The officer was transported to an area hospital where he remains in stable condition. The East Peoria City Council appointed Rich Brodrick to be the city’s new chief of police during Tuesday’s meeting.
Brodrick had been serving as the city’s interim police chief since last October, when Chief Steve Roegge resigned to pursue other opportunities. Before being promoted to the interim chief position, Brodrick had served for seven years as the East Peoria Police Department’s deputy chief.
“I couldn’t be more excited for this police department,” said East Peoria Mayor John Kahl. “This is the first chief we’ve promoted from within for 20 years.”
In addition to Brodrick’s appointment, EPPD Interim Deputy Chief David Horn was appointed deputy chief.
