Local COVID hospitalizations increased in early January

Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record The number of adults with COVID-19 in inpatient beds at Roswell’s two acute care hospitals for the first seven days of January increased by 12 compared to the previous week, according to information from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. But the number of COVID-19 patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds decreased by six, the fourth week that ICU bed usage has gone down in the local area. The most recent national hospital utilization report released Monday by the federal department covers the seven-day period of Jan. 1 to Jan. 7. It shows that 159 adults confirmed to have COVID-19 occupied inpatient beds in Roswell, 135 at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center and 24 at Lovelace Regional Hospital.

She was born August 30, 1939 in Muskogee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Richard Frank and Reba M. Heck. Ruth graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a master’s degree in Psychology and then worked thirty years as a Rehabilitation Counselor; first for the State of New Mexico and then in private practice. She made many friends along the way. Ruth married her longtime sweetheart, William Everett Rochelle on October 20, 1959 in Arkansas City, Kansas. They had four children, William Edward, Sabrina Michelle, Elizabeth Rhea and Richard Daniel. In 2005 they retired to Lake Havasu City, Arizona where they spent 15 happy years. In 2019, they celebrated their 60th anniversary with friends and family in Lake Havasu City, Arizona and shortly after returned to Roswell, New Mexico to be with their son, Danny, his wife Liz, and other famil

Copyright © 2021 Roswell Daily Record Marjorie Pantuso knew quilters were a helpful group of people but she never expected that she or her family would be on the receiving end of that generosity. Nevertheless, she said she’s grateful for the assistance of the Pecos Valley Quilters, of which she is a member, as well as that of Country Club Road Church of Christ and others in the community after her family lost their home in a Dec. 20 fire. Members of the quilters group brought the family quilts and are helping Marjorie resupply her stash of fabrics. One member even spent a day helping the family organize their temporary home.

The hospital utilization report released Monday that covers Dec. 25 to Dec. 31 indicated that the number of adults with confirmed COVID cases hospitalized at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center and Lovelace Regional Hospital dropped by 33 to a total of 147. Eastern had 115 COVID patients in adult inpatient beds, while Lovelace had 32. Meanwhile, the number of adult COVID patients in intensive care unit (ICU) beds decreased by 25 compared to the previous week, to a total of 54. Eastern New Mexico Medical Center had 41 COVID ICU patients, while Lovelace had 13.
