Blackburn doctor deeply ashamed of unacceptable actions over drug driving conviction

Royal Blackburn Hospital A doctor who managed to keep his medical licence despite a drug driving conviction told a tribunal that he was deeply ashamed of his actions . Dr Faisal Nawaz, who qualified in 2017 and was in year two of his foundation training with the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, was convicted in 2019 for one count of dangerous driving and two counts of driving under the influence of cocaine. Nawaz managed to avoid a custodial sentence but as a result of his conviction was asked to attend a tribunal in which his fitness to practise as a doctor would be assessed.

The figures were released on April 10 and covered the previous day s findings. They show that East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, which administers Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospitals and Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust both recorded no new deaths leaving the total number recorded at 1018 and 9 respectively. Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, which administers Chorley and South Ribble Hospital along with Royal Preston Hospital also reported no new deaths, leaving the total death recorded at 697. Further afield, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust followed suit with no new fatalities reported, with total deaths remaining at 763 and 555.
