ELO hospital official responds to union allegation about wages | News, Sports, Jobs

Dec 17, 2020 EAST LIVERPOOL Rick Perez, director of marketing and business development at East Liverpool City Hospital, issued a statement Wednesday disputing a news release from the Ohio Nurses Association saying that some of the ELCH nurses would see a decrease in wages of 8 percent. That statement, Perez wrote “is 100 percent inaccurate. As outlined in the hospital’s last, best and final offer, no bargaining unit registered nurse will receive less than a 1 percent increase in year one of the new contract. The average year one wage increase, over the entire bargaining unit, is approximately 5 percent, with over 43 percent of nurses receiving an increase of 5 percent or more.”

Warden Tom Mackie reported Thursday there are now 40 inmates and five staff who have tested positive since everyone was tested on Sunday. The problem at the jail began last week when five inmates were found to have an elevated temperatures. The county health department recommended everyone be tested as a precaution, and on Saturday a medical team from East Liverpool City Hospital arrived to test all 108 inmates and the staff. Sixteen inmates and two staff tested positive from the rapid response test. Mackie said on Wednesday they received the results from the more accurate tests and learned another 26 inmates and three staff tested positive. The previous story on the outbreak incorrectly implied all of the test results were back on Monday.

County hopes vaccine arrives before Christmas | News, Sports, Jobs

newsroom@reviewonline.com LISBON The county health department is expecting to have its first shipment of vaccines, possibly before Christmas. The hope those vaccines represent cannot come any too soon. During Tuesday’s board of health meeting, Jamie Elenz, medical services administrator, reported while the number of new cases has slowed since they spiked around Thanksgiving, the tracers are considering it a lull. Cases are again expected to rise following the Christmas holiday. She reported there have now been 5,220 cases in Columbiana County and 116 deaths, five since last Friday. The 5,220 number is an increase of 320 positives since Dec. 11, about 53 new cases a day and down from the 97 cases a day average between Dec. 4 and Dec. 11.
