More efforts to help SWLA community needs

LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - United Way of Southwest Louisiana, Kiwanis Club of Lake Charles and the Houston Humane Society came together to put on a grocery distribution for the Lake Area Wednesday afternoon.
It was a busy day at the Lake Charles Civic Center as many organizations provided help for the community’s various needs. The Civic Center was packed full of cars, not only for the food giveaway, but also free COVID-19 testing and COVID-19 vaccines.

LAKE CHARLES, La. â Some families in Lake Charles have the food they need tonight thanks to a drive-thru grocery giveaway.
United Way of Southwest Louisiana, in partnership will various local non-profits, distributed fresh grocery items, peanut butter and pet food during the giveaway at the Lake Charles Civic Center. LAKE CHARLES, LA, March 30 – United Way of Southwest Louisiana will distribute fresh grocery items, peanut butter and pet food in a drive-through, contact-free give-away at the Lake Charles Civic Center with multiple non-profit partners on Wednesday, April 7 from 11 am to 1 pm.
“I continue to be amazed at the opportunities we are able to take advantage of each day in order to help our community rebuild and this grocery and pet distribution is one of them,” explains Denise Durel, president and CEO of United Way of Southwest Louisiana. “We were offered peanut butter from one partner and pet food by another. It is a blessing to be able to pull all of these together and help community members get back on their feet while we rebuild together.”
