GST rate tussle over flavoured milk

Authorities for Advance Rulings of Gujarat, TN and AP rule 12%, Karnataka goes for 5%
Flavoured milk has found different flavours with different Authorities for Advance Rulings (AARs). While Gujarat AAR followed its counterparts in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh to hold GST at the rate of 12 per cent, the Karnataka AAR went for 5 per cent.
Latest rulings from Gujarat are related with two famous milk product brands, Amul and Vadilal. Gujarat Co-Operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd, owner of Amul brand, approached AAR to get ruling regarding on its flavoured milk product sold under trade name of ‘Amul Kool/Amul Kool Cafe’. Another application was moved with similar question by Vadilal for its flavoured milk product being sold under the trade name of ‘Power Sip’.

VADODARA/ ANAND: Homegrown dairy giant Amul has opened its highest altitude branch in Leh near the strategically crucial Indo-China border. This branch will work to meet the demand of remote areas up to the Chinese border even when the road is closed in winter.
The Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) that markets Amul brand has opened its 70th branch at Leh. The branch is fully equipped with ambient, cool and frozen warehousing and logistics infra, GCMMF officials said.
The road connecting Srinagar, where Amul already has a branch, to Leh remains closed for nearly six months.
