With Cuddalore and Villupuram districts witnessing a steady increase in COVID-19 positive cases, the Health Department has stepped up efforts to increase the bed capacity at government hospitals and facilitate early treatment.

In a goof-up at the Cuddalore Government General Hospital, the bodies of a 55-year-old man who died due to COVID-19 and a 51-year-old man who tested negative were mixed up and handed over to the relatives.
While one of the deceased was a Muslim from Bhuvanagiri near Chidambaram, the other was a Hindu from Panruti in the district.
The lapse came to light when the family from Panruti that received the body was preparing to conduct the last rites.

A two-day-old baby girl, who was stolen from the women’s post-operative ward at the Cuddalore Government General Hospital on Saturday, was traced to a government hospital in Puducherry within hours of the incident.
Police sources said Bhagyalakshmi, 24, wife of Manikandan of Panruti, was admitted to the Cuddalore GH on Wednesday. She delivered a baby girl on Friday morning.
Her mother-in-law Kasapayi was helping her in the hospital. On Saturday afternoon, Kasapayi went to a temple near the hospital, when one Lavanya of Panithittu in Puducherry, befriended Bhagyalakshmi.
