KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Monday, the California-based OIR group held its second public input session regarding the response of Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) officers to protests held over the summer. During this virtual meeting, citizens were offered the opportunity to speak in a public medium to voice their concerns and testimony. This was the second of two planned virtual sessions to collect information, with the first taking place earlier in January.

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) The Kalamazoo City Commission has unanimously approved its Fiscal Year 2021 budget as of Monday night. During a virtual meeting, Commissioners discussed the matter at length with multiple city workers. This follows multiple discussions of the budget in previous meetings, as well as a public hearing that was held earlier this month. In total, the city passed a budget of $213,892,050, with $68.3 million allocated for the General Fund. For the General Fund, this represents an overall increase of 1.03% when compared to the Adopted 2020 Budget, according to city officials.

Kalamazoo community invited to participate in independent review of KDPS

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Monday, the City of Kalamazoo announced that area residents are invited to participate in an independent study of the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety’s (KDPS) response to protests over the summer. The study, conducted by California-based OIR group, will include two community input sessions that will take place in January. According to City officials, these sessions will allow community members to share experiences publicly.
