DNA evidence exonerates Ledell Lee, four years after his execution by lethal injection in Arkansas
New forensic testing has revealed that an unknown person was responsible for the murder of Debra Reese, for which Ledell Lee was executed by the State of Arkansas four years ago.
The new evidence was found on objects at the murder scene including a bloody shirt and a club used to bludgeon 26-year-old Reese to death in 1993 after testing was demanded by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and the Innocence Project.

Lee was executed on April 20, 2017, the first of four inmates put to death by the Arkansas government as it rushed to carry them out before one of the drugs used in the state’s lethal injection protocol was about to expire. He maintained his innocence from the time of his arrest, throughout his trial and conviction, and after he was placed on death row in 1995.

West Virginia Governor Jim Justice, a Republican, was unable to cite any example of a transgender athlete gaining an advantage in his state after he signed a bill Wednesday that bans transgender women from competing as part of any public secondary school or state institution of higher education sports teams.
Justice s decision came as Republicans in states across the country are pushing through an unprecedented number of bills targeting the transgender community. Since the start of 2021, more than 250 anti-trans proposed bills have been introduced in state legislatures throughout the country, according to the Human Rights Campaign. The West Virginia governor was confronted during an MSNBC interview on Friday and asked to cite an example of a trans athlete gaining an unfair advantage prior to the legislation being signed.
Arkansas Legislature Passes Bill That Bans Federal Gun Laws Violating Right to Bear Arms

The Arkansas legislature has passed a bill that aims to ban federal gun restrictions in the state that violate the right to bear arms.
The legislation declares federal gun restrictions that violate the Second Amendment, enacted on or after January 1, 2021, invalid in the state. According to the Associated Press, the bill was approved in the Arkansas Senate and was voted 79-20 along party lines in the House.
The bill will now head to Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson s desk, and he is expected to sign it.
