Texas Governor Vows State Action to Fill Gaps Left by Biden’s ‘Open Border Policies’

During his State of the State Address on Monday night, Texas Governor Greg Abbott pledged to “fortify” the state’s border security efforts. The statement follows actions by the new administration of President Joe Biden to end the construction of border wall systems and related policies.
“Because of the federal government’s open border policies,” Governor Abbott said while speaking from Visionary Fiber Technologies in Lockhart, Texas, “Texas must fortify its efforts to secure our border.”
Abbott’s comments follow actions taken by President Biden on this first day in office where he called a halt to the construction of border wall systems funded by congressional authorizations during the Trump administration, as reported by Breitbart Texas. Former CBP Commissioner: Biden’s Border Strategy Is ‘Release, Protect, Reward’
WASHINGTON Former Acting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Mark Morgan left his role at noon on Jan. 20. He had been in the position since early July 2019. During the final months of the Obama administration, Morgan also served as the Border Patrol chief.
Morgan spoke to The Epoch Times about the flurry of border security-related executive orders and memos issued by President Joe Biden and his Department of Homeland Security (DHS). These include temporarily suspending deportations of illegal aliens, reversing President Donald Trump’s ban on travel from terror-prone countries, halting border wall construction, stopping the addition of asylum-seekers to the Migrant Protection Protocol program, preserving the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and releasing a sweeping immigration package to Congress that includes amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.
Border Wall Contractors Told to Stop Construction by Tuesday Night: Congressman
All Customs and Border Protection (CPB) construction on the U.S.-Mexico border wall will stop by the end of Tuesday, according to a Democratic congressman whose district is located along the border.
“I received notification that in accordance with President [Joe] Biden’s executive order, all CPB contractors have now been formally notified by CBP Procurement to pause construction activities on CBP self-executed projects,” Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas) said in a statement. “While CBP cannot speak on behalf of the U.S. Department of Defense or U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), it is expected that DOD and USACE are undertaking parallel action on CBP-funded border wall projects that they are overseeing.”
Mark Morgan said that Biden made the country less safe with the stroke of a pen. It s pure politics over public safety, Morgan told Breitbart News. The former commissioner noted that he knew what their team said to the transition team, and he believed that the new administration did not speak to experts with the CBP and Border Patrol about which policies should remain.
Mark Morgan cited the removal of the Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP), also known as the Remain in Mexico program. He said the program should have been kept, MBNC News reported.
