Five Eritrean citizens have filed a lawsuit in the civil court in Rome against Italian authorities for what they claim was an illegitimate pushback to Libya on July 2, 2018.
Five Eritrean citizens, with the support of the Association for Juridical Studies on Immigration (ASGI) and Amnesty International Italia, have filed a suit with the civil court in Rome against Italian authorities, the private company Augusta Offshore and the skipper of one of its vessels, the Asso Ventinove.
According to a statement published on February 12 by ASGI, the plaintiffs claim that on July 2, 2018 they were pushed back to Libya by the ship Asso Ventinove run by Augusta Offshore as part of operations coordinated by Italian authorities in collaboration with the so-called Libyan coast guard.

It was a busy weekend in the central Mediterranean. The Spanish rescue organization Open Arms said that it had picked up 146 migrants in two separate rescue operations. Meanwhile, the Tunisian navy said that it had picked up 25 from a shipwreck, with one person confirmed dead and about 22 missing.
On Friday evening (February 12) the Spanish rescue organziation Open Arms said its rescue ship picked up 40 migrants after many hours of searching and encounters with a Libyan patrol boat.
It happened last night #Med Rafel and his 3-month-old baby Moez, were rescued together with 38 more people in a flimsy boat on the high seas.

A dozen human rights associations have accused public prosecutors in Trieste, northeastern Italy, of not protecting the rights of asylum seekers. They say prosecutors failed to act when underage asylum seekers were housed in facilities for adults for months.
A group of twelve Italian associations published a statement on Tuesday, February 9, calling on local and national authorities to do more to protect the rights of underage asylum seekers in the Trieste area.
The organizations accused public prosecutor s office at the Trieste juvenile court of not acting in cases where the rights of underage migrants and refugees had been violated. In particular, they said, the authorities had failed to ensure the activation of an age assessment and the authorities had shown a differential treatment of people at the border that has no support in current law.

Three people have been served house arrest warrants and a residency ban in the town of Prato, Tuscany. They allegedly exploited dozens of migrant workers.
Police in the town of Prato in the Tuscany region served warrants to three Chinese nationals on Tuesday. Two of them were placed under house arrest, one of them received a residency ban.
The three allegedly exploited at least 30 workers, most of whom were migrants from Bangladesh and Pakistan. An Afghan citizen and a Chinese national were also among the allegedly exploited workers.
