SAN DIEGO As the traditional school year comes to an end, there is much to look back on and learn from the past year.
On Thursday, May 14, News 8 is partnering with the Cajon Valley Union Elementary School District and the Family Health Centers of San Diego to bring you a virtual panel looking back at the lessons learned during the pandemic over this past school year, and what we need to know moving forward as we return more kids back to school safely in the fall.

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Another group of Americans could become eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine as early as this week: teenagers.
The Pfizer vaccine already has FDA Emergency Use Authorization for people ages 16 and up and could be the first to get approval for kids ages 12-15.
According to a press release from the company, their vaccine showed 100% efficacy against infection among kids in that age range. The teens in the trial also showed higher levels of antibodies than people in the 16-25 age range. Pfizer said side effects were generally consistent between the two age groups.

500 vaccines available for eligible Sweetwater High students

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) National City is partnering with Sweetwater High School to offer eligible students the COVID-19 vaccine.
The city announced it has 500 doses of the Pfizer vaccine set aside for students 16-years-old and older.
The vaccine clinic is on Thursday, April 29 at the Sweetwater High School Campus and the shots will be administered by National City firefighters.
Students must have signed parent permission and a spot reserved ahead of time. The deadline to secure a vaccine is Monday, April 26 by 5 p.m.
National City Mayor, Alejandra Sotelo-Solis, says this partnership is part of the city s 100 day COVID-19 vaccination campaign, making sure the community has access to the vaccines.

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) - A one-day clinic at San Ysidro Middle School gave 700 people their first shot of the Moderna vaccine against COVID-19.
The clinic, run by Family Health Centers of San Diego and the San Diego Latino Equity Council, was explicitly designed to break down barriers that have traditionally kept minorities from getting vaccinated. The more barriers we break down, the easier it s going to be for people to get the vaccination, says San Diego City Councilmember Vivian Moreno, whose district includes San Ysidro.
