AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reports one new case of COVID-19 Friday, which makes 17 total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. Officials there say six people have recovered, leaving 54 in quarantine.
“As vaccinations continue in accordance with the CDC’s recommended guidelines, we ask those who will soon receive the vaccine to please be thoughtful,” a press release from EOC said. “The vaccine’s purpose is to protect our community, particularly our most vulnerable members our elders. It’s not intended to let individuals take vacations or other non-essential trips, nor does it allow you to no longer follow the safety protocols that are still being highly recommended.”

AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting five new cases of COVID-19 today (Wednesday, Jan. 13), which makes 18 total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction.
None of the community members already infected have resolved since yesterday, the Tribe said in a press release, leaving 67 still in quarantine.
The new cases can be attributed to household spread, where once the virus is introduced into a household it continues to spread to other members of the same household, said the Tribe. It requires members, often family members or housemates, to isolate themselves until released by a public health official.

AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center announces a surge in COVID-19 cases following the holiday weekend.
The tribe’s EOC says the number of active cases under tribal jurisdiction increased to 14 during the past few days, with 26 family and friends in isolation or quarantine.
Uncontrolled gatherings and large parties involving individuals from other households is a main contributor to the recent surge. Other factors include holiday travel beyond the 300-mile radius or to identified exclusion areas, but the common denominator is that community members have let their guard down, according to tribal officials.

AKWESASNE The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center stated that no new cases of COVID-19 were reported under the Tribe’s jurisdiction Tuesday, holding the total number of active cases at four.
“With the number of active cases increasing all around Akwesasne however, including the province of Ontario going on a four-week lockdown, community members are urged to not let their guard down and to remain vigilant during the holidays,” Tribe spokesman Brendan White said .
The EOC says community members have done a great job adhering to safety protocols during Thanksgiving compared to the significant number of cases that were reported after Halloween. The low number of cases reported during the past month can be attributed to individuals placing the overall health and safety of their family, friends and the community as a top priority.
