Japanese technology firm Eco Marine Power (EMP) has obtained Approval in Principle (AiP) from classification society ClassNK for its Renewable Energy System for vessels. The system, Aquarius Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) with EnergySail, includes rigid sails, marine-grade solar panels, energy storage modules, marine computers and a charging system.

Eco Marine Power Receives Approval in Principle for Renewable Energy System for Ships In a significant step towards the realization of a zero-emission power and propulsion solution for shipping, Eco Marine Power is pleased to announced that it has recently received Approval in Principle (AiP) from ClassNK of Japan (Nippon Kaiji Kyokai) for its Renewable Energy System for Ships – “Aquarius Marine Renewable Energy with EnergySail”. Aquarius Marine Renewable Energy (MRE) is an advanced integrated system of rigid sails, marine-grade solar panels, energy storage modules, charging system and marine computers that enables ships to tap into renewable energy by harnessing the power provided by the wind and sun. The array of rigid sails are automatically positioned by a computer system to best suit the prevailing weather conditions and can be lowered and stored when not in use or during bad weather.

Eco Marine Power to utilise new KEI-64S Marine Computer for System Platforms As part of its ongoing product development program Eco Marine Power Co., Ltd. (EMP) announced today that it will incorporate the KEI-64S marine computer system into its zero emission solutions for shipping and offshore applications plus utilise the system architecture for other systems. These solutions include the patented EnergySail®, Aquarius Marine Solar Power and Aquarius Marine Renewable Energy (MRE). The KEI-64S is a multifunctional computer system designed to be robust and be able to operate in temperatures up to 55°C. It incorporates a 1.33GHz dual core processor and has interface units that support numerous communication protocols including NMEA, MODBUS, USB2.0 and RS-232C. Connections to the ship’s LAN are also possible via Ethernet ports.
