Education notes: Farming community & climate change

251 Karnal: A one-day programme was organised at NICRA complex of the National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) for the distribution of education-related materials and water filter systems to the scheduled caste community beneficiaries. Dr Harish Routela, an environmentalist, was the chief guest, while the programme was presided over by the Director, NDRI, Dr Manmohan Singh Chauhan. Dr Routella, emphasised on the effects of climate change on the farming community and called it as the need of the hour to solve the issues related to and affecting agriculture as well as livestock sector of the country. He appealed to all scientists to take up research projects on climate-related issues to make the livestock production system climate resilient.

PhD student kills self at Hisar s GJUST, two faculty members booked : The Tribune India

Hisar, May 17 A PhD student killed herself at Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology in Hisar, police said on Monday, leading to investigations into allegations of harassment by two senior faculty members. Sonia, 26, was a student of the university’s Microbiology Department. Police said she took poison in the laboratory of her department.  She was immediately taken to the hospital but died there, police said. A suicide note found after her death mentions no names, but says that she was “taken advantage of” when she was particularly vulnerable. The student’s father accused a senior faculty member of harassing her and claimed he’d even reported the person to university authorities.

11 students clear UGC NET

7637 Karnal: Five students of MCom of Dyal Singh College, Karnal, Ramandeep, Mandeep and Vishal of MCom (fourth semester); Mahima and Sonali of M Com (second semester) cleared UGC NET conducted in June 2020. Along with these five students, two old students of the College, Ekta and Swati made the college feel proud as Ekta cleared JRF and Swati cleared NET. Two students of M.Sc. Forensic Science (5 years integrated course) – Nandini of ninth semester and Ankush (pass out in 2020) cleared UGC NTA NET 2020. Nandini acquired national fellowship for Scheduled Cast students (NFSC) to pursue PhD. Arshdeep Arora also cleared UGC NET June 2020 in English and Rooma Devi (passout in 2017) also cleared UGC NET in political science. Dr Chander Shekhar, principal, congratulated all students for their achievements and prayed for their bright future.
