Tashmica Torok said a Sparrow Hospital department supervisor made a comment to her 17-year-old son while he was receiving his COVID-19 vaccine.
“A person who had power over my son s vaccination made statements to him about becoming a police officer out of context, following multiple murders across the country of Black and brown people at the hands of police violence, she said.
According to Torok, the supervisor went out of her way to let her son know that it s hard to be a police officer these days. She believes he was targeted because he’s Black.
“We don t live in a world where even my Black 17-year-old can go and get his COVID shot without being confronted by police propaganda. And that s not okay with me, she said.

Michigan adds 2,589 cases, 42 deaths from COVID-19
Michigan on Wednesday added 2,589 new cases and 42 deaths from COVID-19, as the state continues to lead the nation in new infections per capita.
The latest figures bring the state s total number of cases to 854,536 and deaths to 17,939 since the virus was first detected in March 2020, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services.
The state continues to lead the nation in new cases per capita for the fifth straight week despite nearly two-fifths of its residents being fully vaccinated. However, cases and hospitalizations are trending downward.
Last week, Michigan added 25,065 new cases and 454 deaths. Cases are decreasing but deaths are rising. Deaths are a lagging indicator of cases and hospitalizations.
Hours for the vaccination clinic are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday (with the exception of May 5, when it is closed), 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays.
The Capital Area Transportation Authority, Eaton County Transportation Authority and Clinton Transit are offering free rides to the site.
