CR man arrested after police chase through Tiffin

4/4/21 According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, 41-year-old Michael Mease of 7 th Avenue SE was observed in Tiffin just before 12:45am driving his SUV without license plates. When an officer turned to follow Mease, he allegedly accelerated to speeds up to 100 miles per hour on Oakdale Boulevard, refusing to pull over for the deputy despite the officer activating his lights and siren. Mease then allegedly abandoned his vehicle near the corner of Oakdale and Iris Avenue and hid. He was later located by a North Liberty K9 unit hiding in a culvert. Mease allegedly admitted to driving on a revoked license and to having warrants for his arrest. His license was revoked from an earlier Eluding conviction in Linn County last year.

OWI suspect accused of attacking UI Police

A drunk driving suspect faces charges that he attacked University of Iowa Police. Arrest records indicate 32-year-old Justin Brown, a resident of the Iowa Lodge on The Coralville Strip, was having trouble driving out of the Iowa Memorial Union parking ramp just after 11:45 Saturday night. A concerned citizen called the Johnson County Joint Emergency Communication Center, and UI Police were dispatched to the scene. Brown allegedly shut off his 2007 Honda Odyssey and exited the vehicle as officers arrived. He was allegedly unable to complete field sobriety tests and breath testing. Police say Brown refused commands from officers and showed signs of intoxication. He allegedly fought with officers, including kicking at them when they tried to place him into a squad car. He allegedly continued fighting with offciers after arriving at UI Police headquarters on South Capitol Street, including breaking a phone inside the building as well as his own cellphone.
