Elicia Maine, special advisor on innovation to SFU’s vice-president, research and international; and the VanDusen professor of innovation and entrepreneurship at the Beedie School of Business, took home 2021 Top Educator honours. Top Education Institute award recognizes SFU’s work championing a cleantech future. For more than 20 years, SFU has established expertise in materials science and engineering, with a complementary investment in clean technology development.

SFU Partners With Foresight to Develop BC Cleantech Sector

Burnaby, BC, February 18, 2021 (T-Net) Simon Fraser University announced that it is partnering with Foresight Cleantech Accelerator Centre to advance the cleantech industry in B.C. and beyond. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) announced will focus on shared areas of opportunity in cleantech development through SFU Innovates. The partnership will involve creating a new research program under the leadership of professor Mark Jaccard of SFU s School of Resource and Environmental Management, and professor Elicia Maine, special advisor on Innovation to SFU s Vice-President, Research and International, and the VanDusen Professor of Innovation and Entrepreneurship. An applied research study will help Canadian companies in emissions intensive trade exposed (EITE) industries transition to cleantech and help inform climate policy. The project is funded by the Pacific Institute for Climate Solutions (PICS) with Foresight as the industry partner.

SFU establishing low carbon innovation centre for Metro Vancouver

Government, Projects Russell Hixson January 18, 2021 PROVINCE OF B.C. Simon Fraser University sits atop Burnaby Mountain in B.C. The school has been tasked with establishing a low carbon innovation centre as part of a national effort to reduce carbon pollution in major metro areas. A new partnership aims to establish a series of innovation centres across the country to accelerate low carbon initiatives. The Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3) network is partnering with major cities and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities for the project, which will create and connect centres in Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal and Halifax.
