Zionsville Police Department Chief Michael Spears and Mayor Emily Styron recently announced support of legislation that would establish a regional Gun Crimes Task Force. State Rep. Greg Steuerwald is proposing HB 1558 to address violent crime in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan, Johnson and Shelby counties by delivering, in cooperation with state and federal officials, a uniform strategy to trace firearms used to commit crimes.

The City-County Council passed Proposal 237 last year to give civilian appointments a majority on the board.
IMPD Police Chief Randal Taylor also announced appointments Friday. He appointed former IMPD Police Chief Bryan Roach and veteran IMPD Capt. David Robinson.

INDIANAPOLIS Twin brothers from Indianapolis are accused of burglarizing 500 Guns on West 16th Street.
According to Indy Metro Police, 18-year-old Jayveon and Tayveon Majors crashed a stolen vehicle into the front of the building on Jan. 22 and stole nine guns.
After conducting surveillance at their home on Sugar Grove Road, police got a search warrant for the property.
Just before IMPD SWAT team members arrived on Jan. 26, the Majors brothers tried to flee and get into a stolen Dodge pickup truck. They were taken into custody and the home was searched.

INDIANAPOLIS After a record-breaking year of homicides, the city s mayor and police chief are sharing their plan to make sure 2021 isn t a repeat.
Criminal homicides increased nearly 40 percent over 2019 in Indianapolis, which mirrors an increase seen in cities nationwide. City leaders said overall violent crime from 2020 was down almost four percent and overall crime was down nearly nine percent.
“As our public health environment rapidly evolves, so does our approach to public safety.
