Five people suspected of having kidnapped a 13-year-old child in Leiria to force her into a marriage with a minor of the same age have been detained by the PJ.
In a statement, the PJ police said they launched an operation at dawn on 22 June aimed at locating and detaining five suspects for the crimes of abduction, attempted murder, attempted sexual abuse of children and damage with firearms, in the cities of Leiria and Marinha Grande.
A sixth person was located and identified as being involved in the consummation of these crimes, the statement reads.

Strike action from SEF union members led to delays at airports as the inspectors call for their functions to remain.
The murder of Ihor Homeniuk sparked outrage around SEF and this wave of indignation led the Government to declare the transfer of SEF functions to other entities. Inspectors are unhappy about this decison and went on strike on 7 May, which affected the operation of airports.
The Portuguese Immigration and Borders Service’s (SEF) reputation will never been the same again. More than a year after the death of the Ukrainian citizen, Ihor Homeniuk, a victim of SEF inspectors, the three men accused of the murder, on 10 May, were sentenced to nine and seven years in prison.

Around 120 illegal parties have been closed down by PSP and GNR since January, some with hundreds of people attending who did not comply with public health rules.
Between January and April, the period of a state of emergency and lockdown to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic, the PSP detected 93 illegal parties and the GNR 24 in various parts of the country.
The Public Security Police detected six illegal parties in January, 41 in February, 28 in March and 18 in April.
The National Republican Guard closed three parties in January, eight in February, seven in March and six in April.
Suspected illegal immigrants missing in Algarve
A group of suspected illegal immigrants that arrived by boat in Vila Real de Santo António, may be made up of as many as 16 people, despite only three being intercepted by police so far, leaving police to look for those remaining.
At the time of going to press, the PSP had detained three people in the incident. Hugo Marado from the PSP said that there were indications that the detainees were part of “a larger group”, with officials suspecting a total of 16 people, allegedly from Morocco, although the authorities highlighted that this “does not mean that they all arrived on the same vessel”.
