Winter Weather Advisory for southern Michigan including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing Updated Jan 31, 2021; A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for about the southern third of Lower Michigan. The Winter Weather Advisory is for the following counties: Ottawa, Kent, Ionia, Clinton, Allegan, Barry, Eaton, Ingham, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Jackson, Washtenaw, Wayne, Lenawee, Monroe, Berrien, Cass, St. Joseph, Branch, Hillsdale. Winter Weather Advisory area is shaded in purple. The Winter Weather Advisory area does an excellent job of outlining the area of Michigan that will get at least 2 inches of snow and up to 5 inches of snow. Notice the pink shaded areas, which are Winter Storm Warnings for the heaviest snow.

TIMING AND IMPACTS: While Saturday has started dry, snow will breakout from southwest to northeast during the early evening. On going moderate, to at times heavy, snow will accumulate through tonight and into Sunday morning. Gusty winds will also lead to blowing and drifting, along with lowered visibility. Travel will be most difficult during this time. The late morning and early afternoon on Sunday will be mostly cloudy and breezy with snow tapering to flurries. Some light additional accumulation is possible. Total snow accumulation will range from around  2-3″ north of Wisconsin Dells to 8-9″ or a little more down toward the Illinois state line, and along the Lake Michigan shoreline.
