Sacramento Power Outages Hit 100,000 Homes and Businesses Amid Major Storm

Power outages are affecting tens of thousands of people in the Sacramento area after a storm system brought strong winds, heavy rain and snow to parts of California on Tuesday night.
The Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) is currently reporting north of 700 active power outages, affecting roughly 100,000 customers. Mother nature is dealing us a rough hand tonight, SMUD posted on Twitter Tuesday evening. We re experiencing scattered power outages due to the rainy, windy weather.

Drizzle may freeze on surface Friday night into Saturday morning before a changeover to light snow, with a few inches of new accumulation possible by Sunday afternoon. Nothing to write home about. Multiple winter storms producing heavy snow will impact various areas of the U.S. this week. One storm producing heavy snow will move from the Midwest into the Great Lakes and Northeast, while another cold system producing heavy mountain snow will move through the Four Corners region. Finally, a winter storm will hit California, producing excessive rain and heavy snow.
Winter Storm Warnings are in place in areas across the country. A Winter Storm Warning means that snow will cover the roads and that there will be limited visibility. Additionally, people in areas under a warning are recommended not to travel. Road closures and travel delays are also likely.
