3,688 beds kept ready to be used in COVID hospitals
Kozhikode District Collector S. Sambasiva Rao has claimed that steps have been taken to ensure treatment for at least 75,000 COVID-19 patients at various health facilities. As many as 3,688 beds have been kept ready to be used in COVID hospitals.
He told the media at an online press meet on Thursday that the available capacity would not have to be utilised to the maximum. A district-level war room has been functioning to monitor the usage of intensive care units (ICU), ventilators, and oxygen cylinders. Data from hospitals will be updated every four hours. Coordinators have been appointed at hospitals to ensure proper treatment.

The active COVID-19 caseload in Kozhikode district dropped below 5,000 on Wednesday when 605 people recovered from the infection. Only 4,963 people are under treatment for COVID-19 here now.
Only 399 fresh cases were detected on the day, according to the District Medical Officer. A total of 383 cases were locally acquired infections and the source of 13 others was not known. Kozhikode Corporation reported 90 cases of local transmission, Koyilandy, 17 and Kuruvattoor 15. As many as 5,832 samples were tested and the daily test positivity rate is 6.84%.
Around 4,000 health workers given jab so far in Kozhikode
The Health Department hopes to conclude the first phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive in Kozhikode district by February 12. A week after the launch of the drive on January 16, around 4,000 health workers have been vaccinated here so far.

The Hindu that 100 people were given the jab at the centre attached to the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, on Saturday.
The drive had been held on last Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday as well. He said that more vaccination centres would be added in the coming days. According to sources, they would be at the MCH, Baby Memorial Hospital, Malabar Medical College, Meitra Hospital, and IQRAA Hospital.
