Policy Institute Releases Statewide Impact of COVID-19 on LA Families with Young Children

Today, the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children (LPIC) released results from “Struggling to Recover: The Impacts of COVID-19 on Louisiana Families with Young Children” in partnership with Agenda for Children, Louisiana Department of Education, New Orleans Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, Urban League of Louisiana and Women United of Southeast Louisiana. The Lake Superior Zoo School Is Having A Virtual Open House

Last year the Lake Superior Zoo opened their Nature based all day pre-school and are back up and ready to accept students for the new school year and also summer session. They will be hosting a virtual open house on January 30, 2021 from 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. Click here for more information and to sign up. The mission for the Preschool is as follows: To inspire the healthy social emotional, physical, creative, and cognitive development of young children through close-up experiences with animals and nature. The Lake Superior Zoo School is open to children ages 33 months (fully potty trained) -5 years old located in the Twin Ports area. They will also accept families participating in the Child Care Assistance Program. These are full days Monday-Friday; 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. The School-year Session: Tuesday, September 7, 2021 – Thursday, June 9, 2022 with Summer Session Monday June 21, 2021 – Friday August 27, 2021.

Louisiana Department of Education The Louisiana Department of Education announced changes to the Child Care Assistance Program (CCAP), which provides federal funds to help low-income working families pay for child care. The changes, approved during today’s Board of Elementary and Secondary Education meeting, enable more Louisiana families to afford and qualify for child care assistance.  Effective February 1, 2021: CCAP daily reimbursement rates will be increased to reflect the state’s current market rates for child care, significantly reducing out of pocket cost for working families and increasing family choice. Income eligibility will be increased to 65% of the State Median Income (SMI) in order to align with other child care programs, allowing families to make more income and still qualify for child care subsidy (CCAP).
