Hurley Children s Hospital has named Lydia Bollinger as the 2021 Children s Miracle Network Champion.
This means you ll be seeing Lydia s adorable face all throughout Michigan this year helping to spread the word about Children s Miracle Network. The announcement came out this week, and I couldn t possibly be happier for Lydia. She has been through more in her 6 years than most of us will ever have to face. Despite all of the challenges she s one of happiest little girls I ve ever met.

February 2, 2021 MACOMB/MOLINE, IL - - The Western Illinois University Business Analytics program has graduated its first student, Elijah Elkerton, of Minneapolis, MN.
The Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) approved a new Bachelor of Business in business analytics at Western Illinois University to begin in Fall 2018.
Elkerton, who joined Western s graduate program in analytics, Master of Science in Applied Statistics and Decision Analytics (ASDA), this spring, not only chose to come to Western to play on the Division I football team, but also because he was looking for a school that had an undergraduate and graduate program to allow him to enter the data science or analytics field.

A combination of genetic mutations may explain the higher incidence of and poorer outcomes from pediatric leukemia in Hispanic and Latino children, according to Penn State College of Medicine researchers. They said a novel therapeutic drug combination - as well as testing for these mutations - may help address the disparity.
Hispanic and Latino children are between 1.2 and 1.75 times more likely to develop B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL), the most common childhood cancer, than non-Hispanic and Latino children. They also have a 40% higher death rate than their counterparts after correcting for socioeconomic factors. Dr. Sinisa Dovat, a researcher and pediatric oncologist at Penn State Children s Hospital and Penn State Cancer Institute, partnered with Dr. Gordana Raca of Children s Hospital Los Angeles and Kimberly J. Payne of Loma Linda University to understand the biology behind this health disparity after prior research suggested that there may be an increase

Southern Tier companies are doing what they can to also bring us hope and to make a difference. Recently Visions Federal Credit Union help by donating $60,000 to various COVID-19 relief organizations in our area. They also lent a hand by raising over $11,000 to benefit local food banks with their Denim Days Program.
As part of their Visions Cares program, they gave UHS Hospitals a $15,000 grant that let them expand their COVID-19 testing capacity.
Another thing they did recently really turned out to be a life-saver for a local school. Visions gave $500 worth of children s hats, glove scarves, and boots to the Owego Apalachin School District.
2021 Cares for Kids Radiothon (KFGO Midwest Radio)
FARGO (KFGO) – Midwest Radio Fargo-Moorhead stations Froggy 99.9 (99.9 FM), Y94 (93.7 FM) and KFGO-AM (790 AM/94.1 FM/104.7 FM) are joining forces Jan. 28 and 29 to raise money during the 21st Annual Cares for Kids Radiothon presented by Corwin Automotive Group benefiting Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo. Last year, the radiothon raised over $150,000.
Money raised during the radiothon is used to support special programs, purchase high-tech medical equipment and fund research and education for Sanford Children’s Hospital, the only Children’s Miracle Network hospital in North Dakota. 100% of funds raised stay local to help children from throughout North Dakota and northwest Minnesota who receive care at Sanford Children’s.
