READY! kits with books, activities offered to incoming HCPS kindergartners
Community volunteers put together 1,100 READY! kits full of kindergarten readiness activities Friday.
Henderson County Public Schools and local early education partners are wanting to provide the kits to give incoming kindergartners tools they can use at home to prepare for their first year of school, according to a HCPS news release.
The kits include books, crayons, clay, safety scissors, Unifix cubes and activity sheets. They will be distributed by each elementary school by the end of this school year.
HCPS also developed a three-part series of “Kindergarteners Can!” videos to provide an introduction to what school will look like. The videos are available on the district’s YouTube channel, website, Facebook and Twitter.

This year’s program selected 23 nonprofits to receive grants.
“I feel very fortunate to be able to give back to this wonderful community each year and am excited our partnerships are growing with the addition of Southern Alarm & Security and Trane,” Horizon owner Dan Poeta said. “We are all excited to be supporting 23 organizations with charitable grants this year.”
The companies joined together to streamline their philanthropic efforts and support local nonprofits through a donor-advised fund held at the Community Foundation of Henderson County. Quarterly grants have been awarded to the following organizations:
